VHAVENDA KINGSHIP
Today's topic focus on the history of Vhavenda kingship in Limpopo, the influences that influences the kingship and the destruction that destroyed it in 1889.
The history of Vhavenda kingship was created by king Dimbanyika in the year 1600, but the history was destroyed by the Boers after king Makhado died of suspected poisoning. This was the time when Mphephu Ramabulana was ruling Venda. When referring to king Dimbanyika we are talking about one of the kings who ruled Venda under the post-apartheid and he is one of those who just disappeared at Dzata ruins. Dimbanyika's life ended at the cave as he was trapped inside the cave and no man could help him as the stone was too big for a human being to remove, but suddenly a voice called from the cave saying that there is nothing that can be done so i will take this cave as my dying place and this mountain shall represent my grave.

Following the fall of Dimbanyika, there was king Makhado who resided at Songozwi village, then after him his son became the king and he was named kinh Mphephu. King Mphephu was forced to move to go and stay in Dzanani so that he can rule from that side, under Ramabulana Royal Palace. He was forced to move because the Boers have taken over Songozwi and started to build house and farms. Then king Mphephu died in 1924 and he was succeeded by his son who was named King Mphephu 2 in the following year. he served his term as a king of Vhavenda under the leadership of Ramabulana up until he died in 1949 then he was followed by his son Patrick Ramaano Mphephu, who was then crowned king Mphephu 3.

King Patrick Ramaano was born in 1924 in Dzanani village and serve as Vhavenda king. By the time of his chieftaincy he made a lot of changes in Venda, as we see the school that built under his leadrship and it was named his name. Today as Venda we are proud of Patrick Ramaano secondary school which produces good marks when it comes to grade 12 students. We are also proud of the 15 SAI military base in Thohoyandou was was also built under his leadership. The military base is symbolized by the head of an elephant, which in Venda is referred as Thohoyandou. He ruled from 1950 to 1988. Then he died in 1988 where he left the seat of the chieftaincy with Tshimangadzo who was crowned Dimbanyika Thohoyandou Ramabulana 2.

Toni Mphephu Ramabulana was born in 1972 in Nzhelele Venda and he is the reigning king of Vhavenda nation. King Toni was crowned the king in 1998 at Dzanani Ramabulana palace with the presence of late president Nelson Mandela.
