VENDA AND THOHOYANDOU HISTORY IN LIMPOPO PROVINCE
Today i am going to share the history of Venda and Thohoyandou as it is part of Limpopo province which is still my home town. Venda history started at Mapungubwe in the late 9th century under the leadership of King Shiriyadenga who was the first king of Venda and she was followed by King Mphephu Ramabulana. The vhavenda people came from the central Africa and they built their home in place called Dzata ruins in Nzhelele village that people can still gain access to it today. Dzata ruins is taken as a place where people go and see all the things that the Venda people built when they arrived, so it is taken as a historic place for them.

The venda people speak Tshivenda as their home language and Tshivenda is associated with the Shona language from Zimbabwe. Limpopo is situated in the north of South Africa and it shares a boarder with Zimbabwe. The boarder is situated at Mussina where there are different facilities such as game reserve and other enjoyable facilities. This is the boarder in which people from Zimbabwe use when entering South Africa.
The most known city in Venda is Thohoyandou which is simply means the head of an elephant.
Thohoyandou was named after king Thohoyandou who ruled in his time. Today Thohoyandou is a great city as it had stadium and shopping malls. This is where we find Thohoyandou stadium the home ground of Black Leorpard and there is Thavani mall which was built in 2017, Mvusuludzo mall and Phangami mall. People from other neighbouring place such as Giyani and Malamulele under Chabane municipality they come and do their shopping in Thavhani mall as it is the biggest mall in Venda or lets just say in Limpopo.

The Venda people use to play a special drum which was called Ngomalungundu. Ngomalungudu was played in times of war, and it was used to confuse the enemy. Ngomalungundu is referred as the drum of the dead, so when they play it all tge enemy will flew as they will be terrified by it. In Venda we have some of the scared place where you cannot just enter as you wish, some of this place are Lake Fundudzi and Tshiendeulu and other places. Lake Fundudzi is the place or a dam in which one can hear people playing Tshikona but when you look around you will never see anyone. Tshikona is one of the Venda traditional dance where it is most practiced in the royal family. Tshiendeulu is place where the royalities are buried as royalities they are not buried with the commoners. So all this place
they are very secretive.

Today as we speak there are more than thousands of Venda people who live in Thohoyandou under the Thulamela municipality. Venda people are very proud as the Kruger National Park is situated there. People from all over the world they pass Venda when visiting the park and other entertainment facilities such as Nandoni dam. Nandoni dam is situated at Venda and it has occupied lot of space as people from Mphego, Madzivhandindila, Maniini and other neighbouring villages were forced to live their home as the dam was growing each and everyday.

It was nice sharing the history of Venda, so next time we are going to talk about the rituals and the traditional dance and other stuff that happened in Venda and the rest of Limpopo. ``Ndaa ndi Mulaudzi wa Lwamondo ane hana thavha hone thavha yawe ndi madamu avhafumakadzi``.
